History of Location (from www.uss-salem.org)

Ordered by the US Navy on 14 June, 1943, USS Salem (CA 139) was laid down on 4 July, 1945 at the Bethlehem Steel Company’s Quincy Yard in Quincy, MA and launched on 25 March, 1947. She was commissioned at the Boston Navy Yard on 14 May, 1949.

USS Salem served a distinguished 10 year career as flagship of the US Sixth Fleet in the Mediterranean and the Second Fleet in the Atlantic. During her career she served as host to such notables as the US Ambassador to Spain, John D. Lodge; the Honorable Thomas S. Gates, Undersecretary of the Navy; Admiral Arleigh A. Burke, USN, Chief of Naval Operations; the Shah of Iran; the President of Lebanon and the King and Queen of Greece.

Although Salem never fired her mighty guns in anger, her very presence served as a stimulus for peace during those troubled times that came to be called the Cold War. She served as a Lady of Diplomacy, rather than as a means of exerting brute force.

Imagine a small city placed in “mothballs”, stored for 35 years, and then reopened and restored to it’s former glory. When USS Salem was decommissioned on 30 January, 1959 and joined the Atlantic Reserve Fleet at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard, Dwight D. Eisenhower was president of the United States and everyone was watching I Love Lucy on their new television.

In October of 1994, Salem once again made her way north to her birthplace in Quincy, where she is now the centerpiece of the United States Naval and Shipbuilding Museum. Bill Clinton was president of the United States, people were watching Murphy Brown and Beverly Hills: 90210 on their big-screen TV’s and “surfing the net”. Now “crewed” by a staff of museum professionals and enthusiastic volunteers, she is being restored to her full glory.

On 14 May, 1995 – 46 years to the day since her original commissioning – Salem was recommissioned – this time as a member of the Historic Naval Ships Association. She now serves her country once again with her new mission of teaching people of all generations our nation’s rich history of shipbuilding and naval duty.

The Mount Washington Hotel is located in the beautiful Bretton Woods area of Carroll, New Hampshire. According to Wikipedia.Org, the hotel was built in 1902, for the cost of 1.7 million dollars, by the millionaire Joseph Stickney. After making his fortune as a Coal broker and Railway Tycoon, Stickney wanted to provide his lovely wife Carolyn with a palace to match her beauty.

Within a year of the Hotel’s completion, Joseph Stuckney was dead. His wife Carolyn continued to live in the Hotel, and it soon became a symbol of opulance and luxury in the early 20th Century. According to an article on 25 Haunted New England Inns on Boston.Com, Carolyn Stickney often hosted luxurious dinner parties at the hotel, and she routinely spied her guest’s attire from a hidden vantage point on her balcony. Her spy work would always allow Carolyn to arrive at dinner dressed to out-do all her guests. Carolyn’s opulant lifestyle would continue when she married Prince Lucinge of France, and Princess Carolyn remained the owner of the estate until she died in 1934.

According to RealHaunts.Com, the ghost of Carolyn Stickney has been seen peering down from her balcony (perhaps trying to see her guests’ attire), and guests have reported hearing “ghostly” music throughout the hotel. Further, according to some guests, the smell of perfume floats throughout the hotel, and televisions change channels by themselves. Interestingly, a beautiful handcrafted four-post bed in Room 314 is said to be a manifestation point for Carolyn Stickney’s apparition.

The Hotel was featured on the TV series Ghost Hunters in 2008, and a seemingly amazing EVP (perhaps too amazing to be believable) was captured:

Whether or not you believe the evidence and personal claims of paranormal activity, The Mount Washington Hotel remains a beautiful example of a Grand Hotel in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Declared a National Historical Landmark in 1986, the Mount Washington hotel is a perfect destination for anyone wishing to stay where history meets relaxation.

One of the big challenges of managing a paranormal team with a high demand for it’s services, is keeping an eye on everyone’s schedules. Since we all do this on a voluntarily basis, we all have other commitments. Along with our internal software that manages clients, PCMS, I needed a reliable, easy to use , professional service that will help manage the team and make sure everyone has the latest information on investigation / presentation scheduling and that we could track our data analysis after the project.

I looked through a number of open source programs and some other sites when I came across OnePlace. Not only does this fantastic service have everything I need, but they also have a Giving Back Program where they will give non-profits like us their Silver plan for free. They are very in line with the PRAB’s core ethos of helping others, which is why they are helping us out and have included us in this program.

So, if your team has a need for good management of your team, I urge you to check them out. You won’t be disappointed. And, again, thank you OnePlace for this! It is very much appreciated!

Dianne claims that she has heard a woman’s voice multiple times at 2:14 AM, coming from the area near the top of the staircase. She also claims to hear children’s laughter.

Our team will arrive on-location around 7:00 PM EST, and conduct a full Scientific Paranormal Investigation.

Follow along here for LIVE blogging, and Twitter *at*PRAB_Nate and *at*PRAB_Brad for photos and updates during the night!

We’ll present our evidence LIVE On-Air Halloween Monday morning, on Jam’n 94.5 FM Boston, on the Ramiro and Pebbles show! Hope you can tune in!

Updates:

10:39 PM — We’ve been at the house for a few hours now. Some VERY interesting personal experiences! Right now, we have a static night-vision camera at the top of the stairs, where the homeowner’s friend saw the apparition of a woman in blue. Also have a DVR static recorder in the master bedroom, where the homeowner hears a woman’s voice and children’s laughter.

11:02 PM — Just went to pick up static camera and voice recorder. Camera was TURNED OFF — seems to have been a battery issue, eventhough when we placed the camera around 10:35 PM, there were 43 min remaining on battery indicator.

2:30 AM — Finished off the investigation. Some VERY interesting personal experiences, that Brad and I will have to try and figure out. This was an extremely interesting case. Now, for evidence review! We’ll present any findings on Monday morning, during the Ramiro and Pebbles show, Jam’n 94.5 FM Boston!

Thanks to all of you who followed along!
