Public Lecture: "The Science of Paranormal Research"
in the Rollins Library
![]() |
Lead Investigator Ian Murphy hosts the hit lecture, The Science of Paranormal Research The Science of Paranormal Research is designed to educate members of the public in the basics of scientific paranormal research. It offers people interested in paranormal research the opportunity to experience the scientific aspect of research of this very interesting subject. The presentation has been given over 5 years in 2 continents, with updates as new theory and practice come into play. The audience is also exposed to the equipment used in paranormal research. It encompasses the use of, and theories behind, the equipment we use. When asked why he is giving this one off lecture, Ian Murphy explains: "When we started in Ireland, the notion of a research association using scientific methods to research something as controversial as ghosts etc, was unheard of. People frankly didn't understand what we did. These days, as talking about strange things that have happened to you is becoming more and more acceptable, we have decided to re-visit this forum. I have updated this presentation for 2012, and while it has some elements that are still in place from the 2005 presentation, it is mainly new material. The reason behind this is we continuously refine our research methods, research and implement new techniques, experiments and equipment. In 5 years, I'm sure I'll be saying the same about this 2012 presentation!" Join Ian Murphy and the team of the PRAB: |

One of the big challenges of managing a paranormal team with a high demand for it's services, is keeping an eye on everyone's schedules. Since we all do this on a voluntarily basis, we all have other commitments. Along with our internal software that manages clients, PCMS, I needed a reliable, easy to use , professional service that will help manage the team and make sure everyone has the latest information on investigation / presentation scheduling and that we could track our data analysis after the project.
I looked through a number of open source programs and some other sites when I came across OnePlace. Not only does this fantastic service have everything I need, but they also have a Giving Back Program where they will give non-profits like us their Silver plan for free. They are very in line with the PRAB's core ethos of helping others, which is why they are helping us out and have included us in this program.
So, if your team has a need for good management of your team, I urge you to check them out. You won't be disappointed. And, again, thank you OnePlace for this! It is very much appreciated!

PRAB Live! A the Colonial House in Cape Cod.
The original house was first built in 1716, by Captain John Minot, a soldier and physician. In 1730 another part of the present building was built next to the Minot house by the Josiah Ryder family, a two story Federal style home with a hip roof, an attic and a basement. The Ryder family lived there for only a short time. Captain Joseph Eldrige bought the home. During the Revolutionary War, this house was used as a hospital and room 24 was Dr. Minot's operating room.
![]() |
For the next 100 years was known as the Eldrige House, being passed down to descendants, such as Dr. Azariah Eldridge who enjoyed living in this Cape Cod location. But more room was needed. Another house which was floated over from Nantucket, was added on a foundation at the rear of the original Eldrige building as more living space was desired. It wasn't until 1860 that this house was added directly onto the main structure and added a third floor while they were at it. The Minot house was also made part of the Eldrige building along with two other nineteenth-century buildings, in the latter part of the 1800s. A mansard roof and the portico sitting on the top modernized the house to fit in with the Victorian style homes being built at this time. Will we see the Monk in the office, the doctor in 226 or the mysterious Dining Room supervisor? Who knows, but join us, on PRAB Live! |

USS Salem - September 19th 2009
![]() |
On September 19th, the Paranormal Research Association of Boston, in conjunction with Paranormal New England will embark on the first of many Paranormal Alliance investigations. The USS Salem, located in Quincy, MA |
History
Ordered by the US Navy on 14 June, 1943, USS Salem (CA 139) was laid down on 4 July, 1945 at the Bethlehem Steel Company's Quincy Yard in Quincy, MA and launched on 25 March, 1947. She was commissioned at the Boston Navy Yard on 14 May, 1949.
USS Salem served a distinguished 10 year career as flagship of the US Sixth Fleet in the Mediterranean and the Second Fleet in the Atlantic. During her career she served as host to such notables as the US Ambassador to Spain, John D. Lodge; the Honorable Thomas S. Gates, Undersecretary of the Navy; Admiral Arleigh A. Burke, USN, Chief of Naval Operations; the Shah of Iran; the President of Lebanon and the King and Queen of Greece.
Although Salem never fired her mighty guns in anger, her very presence served as a stimulus for peace during those troubled times that came to be called the Cold War. She served as a Lady of Diplomacy, rather than as a means of exerting brute force.
In October of 1994, Salem once again made her way north to her birthplace in Quincy, where she is now the centerpiece of the United States Naval and Shipbuilding Museum.
The USS Salem is also host to the Halloween exhibit, “The Haunted Ship”.
